Deep-cycle batteries for Photovoltaic Systems
Batteries are the heart of any island system. Batteries will store power in high generation times and deliver when generation is lower than demand. Without energy storage off-grid systems would be not be able to function.
There are various battery designs with advantages and disadvantages. A key consideration when choosing a battery bank is lifetime. Batteries are rated in cycles. The most basic batteries are good to cycle 150 full cycles while the best batteries can cycle up to 1200 cycles.
A correctly sized battery bank should be able to sustain all the loads for 3 days. As all the power are not used during low or no generation times a typical battery bank will cycle only 15%-20% depending on usage patterns. That would give a 150 cycle battery up to 750 days in use. Better batteries like AGM or GEL can cycle up to 600 times, with expected life up to 3000 days(8 years). The top of the range batteries will cycle up to 1200 times with expected lifetime 15-20 years.
Maintenance will also expand the lifetime of batteries and should be done on a annual basis.

standby service or more than 260 cycles at 100% discharge in cycle
service. As with all CSB batteries, all are rechargeable, highly
efficient, leak proof and maintenance free.
XTV12950, 95A.h 12V is a general battery up to 12 years expected life in
standby service or more than 260 cycles at 100% discharge in
cycle service . XTV has a wider operating temperature range,
which makes them more suitable for the systems in harsh
conditions.
HRL12390, 390W @ 15min. is specially designed for high efficient discharge
application. Its characteristics are high energy density, small
footprint and high discharge efficiency. It can be used for more
than 260 cycles at 100% discharge in cycle service, up to 10
years in standby service.
